L
exington is a town motorcyclists should find on their maps and circle with a big red marker. It has all the right features to make it a fine destination for a week of exploring the hills and hollows of the Appalachians. Lexington is an old Southern town with a heritage that it displays with great pride. It is located at the intersection of two major intersections, I-81 and I-64, making it a breeze to get to. It is a college town, too, which means you can always count on something happening around town.

Lexington is also in the center of some of the finest, most pleasurable touring. Five minutes on the road and you are touring the vast Virginia countryside on well-paved, scenic roads with little traffic to contend with at any time of the year.

Few people seem to realize the true value of this area, though. Most riders are just passing through on their way to somewhere else. Too bad. In their rush to make it to their destination, they forget about the journey and miss all the good riding.

If you fancy getting away and want to stay somewhere that’s not too fancy, while surrounding yourself with great motorcycling roads, Riders Rest is the place for you. Established by expat Brits Bernie and Sue Shaw, this biker friendly B&B is situated in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley between the Blue Ridge Mountains to the east and the Appalachians to the west. Situated 2 miles outside of Lexington town on Scenic Route 39.
